THIN ORGANIC COATING (TOC) FOR GALVALUME

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

SUTOC is a water emulsion based thin organic coating chemical having hexavalent chrome (Cr+6) for strip line application by roll coater/ chem coater on Galvalume coated steel surfaces. It is mainly used as a finish coat for corrosion protection.

PRODUCT ADVANTAGES:

  • Extraordinary corrosion resistance
  • Excellent weather resistance
  • Fingerprint resistance
  • Good heat emissive properties
  • Improves performance in roll forming
  • Resists black staining/darkening during storage, transport & further processing of strip.

COMPOSITIONAL ASPECT OF SUTOC:

SUTOC is having the following major components: Chromium (VI) compound. Acrylic polymer emulsion in primary form. Proprietary additives.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SUTOC:

  • Appearance: Yellowish white emulsion.
  • Sp. Gravity: 1.02 – 1.04
  • pH: 7.0 – 8.0
  • Chrome Pointage : 20 – 30 ml
  • Solid content (%) (w/w): 30 ± 2 (Typical 30 %)

APPLICATION:

  • Substrate: Galvalume
  • Coating Chemical: SUTOC
  • Concentration: No dilution, Ready to Use Solution
  • Temperature of bath: Solution not required to be heated, preferable
  • solution temperature range 10 – 40 degC
  • Method of application: Roll Coater / Chem Coater
  • Dry film coating weight: 2.0 – 4.0 g/m2 /both sides or 1.0 – 2.0 gm/m2 /sideDrying /Curing Condition: Preferably 85degC – 90degC (Peak metalTemperature)
  • Applicator roll speed: 100 ± 10% of line speed Pick up roll speed: 50 ± 5% ofline speed

CONSUMPTION:

The consumption/coverage mainly depends on dry film thickness of the coating. Galvalume sheet assuming a coating weight of 2.8 gm/m2 (both sides).

SOLID COMTENT:

  • Apparatus: Electronic analytical balance Petri Dish (10 cm dia), flat glass surface, height (1.5 – 2.0 cm)
  • Reagents: Nil
  • Method: Take around 5 g of sample into a Petri Dish and dry in oven at 120 degC for 1 hour.

Calculation:

  • P2 – P1 % Dry solid = X 100 W1
  • Where P1≡ Weight of Petri Dish
  • P2≡ Weight of Petri Dish + Dry Sample ,W1≡ Weight of sample taken

COATING CHARACTERISTICS:

Coating Weight:

  • A) Dry Film Coating Weight: 1.8–3.8 g/m2 /both sides or 0.9–1.9 g/m2 /side
  • B) Chromium Layer Coating Weight (as Cr): 20–40 mg/m2 /both sides or 10–20 mg/m2 /side

Destructive Method: -

  • Principle: The Dry Film Coating is removed by burning off at high temperature and the coating is measured by gravimetric method from the weight difference.
  • Apparatus : i) Muffle Furnace
    ii) Electronic Analytical Balance
  • Reagent: Nil
  • Procedure: Cut four pieces of 2” X 2” panel from the sheet. Weigh the panels accurately in electronic analytical balance (at a time). Let the total weight be W1. Ignite the panels in Muffle Furnace at 420 degC – 430degC for 10 minutes. Cool the panels to room temperature. Weigh the ignited panels again all at a time. Let the total weight of the panels after ignition is W2.
  • Calculation: Coating weight (gm/m2 /both sides) = (W1 – W2) x AREA

TYPICAL PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES:

Salt Spray ASTM B117 (≤5% white / black rust): 1000 hrs.
